Wulansuhai Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The Wulansuhai Formation was erected by the Inner Mongolia Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1986. The section for the designation is at Wulansuhai of Mubei of Wuliji of Ejin Qi of Inner Mongolia (104°12′10″E; 41°13′8″N).
Lithology and Thickness
The Wulansuhai Formation is represented by brown red and purple red mudstone with break red siltstone and gray white sandstone, with basalt at the base and with thin-bedded gypsum in the upper part. The Wulansuhai Formation is excess 93 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by gray basalt lies unconformably on the underlying Suhongtu Fm. It may also lie unconformably on the Bayingebi Fm or older strata like the Amushan Fm or the Variscan rock bodies.
Upper contact
Its top is not observed, but regionally is unconformably under the Paleogene Sizikou Fm [Not in English Lexicon of Paleogene]
Regional extent
The present formation occurs in the Alxa Zuoqi , Urad Houqi and Urad Zhongqi of the Suhongtu basin of Inner Mongolia. On the margin of the basin, it is quite coarse in lithology, dominated by break red sandstone and mudstone, with an increase of mudstone and darker color at the center of the basin, with a larger number of clayey limestone and gypsum beds, ranging from 100 to 700 m in thickness.

Fossils
The formation bears Reptile Protoceratops sp., dinosaur eggs Oolithes elongates, Hadrosauridia Bactrosaurus sp.; and Hadrosauridae in the Burhantuo area of Urad Zhongqi.

Depositional setting
It belongs to fluvial-lacustrine deposition.
